Vitamin D: The Sunny Country Paradox
One of the sunniest countries on earth has one of the highest vitamin D deficiency rates - indoor life and sun avoidance mean most of us make almost none.
Why it matters
Vitamin D drives calcium absorption. Long-term deficiency contributes to bone pain, muscle weakness, and fatigue that is easy to blame on a busy life.
Testing and dosing
A simple blood test gives your level. Below 50 nmol/L, your doctor will usually prescribe a weekly loading dose for two to three months, then a maintenance dose. Over-the-counter guessing wastes months - test first.
Food helps, a little
Fatty fish, fortified milk, and eggs contribute, but food alone rarely corrects a true deficiency.
